About Omar

Omar Serrato has practiced law in California for more than a decade, nearly all of it in contested matters: divorces that did not settle, custody fights that went to evidentiary hearings, restraining order trials, and civil lawsuits over contracts, property, and money. He founded Serrato Law APC in San Bernardino to practice the way he believes litigation should be practiced, with the attorney who takes the case being the attorney who argues it.

He writes his own motions, takes his own depositions, and tries his own cases. Clients work directly with him from the first consultation through judgment, and they get a candid assessment at every stage: what the law allows, what the evidence supports, what the other side is likely to do, and what the realistic outcomes are. Cases that should settle get settled on terms the client understands. Cases that should be tried get tried.

Omar's family law practice covers divorce and legal separation, child custody and visitation, custody modification trials, child and spousal support, domestic violence restraining orders on both the petitioner and respondent side, stepparent adoptions, and termination of parental rights. His civil practice covers breach of contract, real property and deed disputes, foreclosure defense, financial elder abuse, discovery disputes, and trial work. He also builds estate plans and litigates will and trust contests, work that grew out of the property and family disputes he was already handling.

He appears regularly in the superior courts of San Bernardino, Riverside, and Los Angeles counties and has handled matters in courts throughout Southern California.

Representative matters

In Marraccini v. Owens (San Francisco Superior Court), Omar took over the defense of a long-running domestic violence restraining order case and moved to set aside the underlying order on the ground that it had been obtained through extrinsic fraud. The matter drew national attention and was resolved in his client's favor.

His caseload otherwise consists of the matters most families and small businesses in the Inland Empire actually face: custody modification trials, support disputes, contested property division, partition and quiet title actions, and contract claims. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome in any other case.

The Tilted Lawyer

Outside the courtroom, Omar hosts The Tilted Lawyer, a podcast and YouTube livestream that follows high-profile trials as they happen. He reads the filings, watches the testimony, and explains what the lawyers are doing and why, for an audience that includes law students, other attorneys, and people who simply want to understand a case better than the headline. About the show.

How the firm works

Serrato Law is small on purpose. Four commitments follow from that.

One attorney, start to finish

The attorney you meet at the consultation handles your hearings, your negotiations, and your trial. Nothing is handed off to someone you have never met.

Straight answers

You will know the strengths and weaknesses of your case, including the ones you would rather not hear about, before you spend money on it.

Trial preparation from day one

Every declaration, discovery request, and letter is written with the hearing in mind. That is also what produces good settlements, because the other side can see the case is ready.

Clear billing

Retainers are quoted up front and statements are itemized. You will not be surprised by an invoice.
